During these crazy times we are living in, the safest and easiest solution to travelling is to do your very own road trip. Thats exactly what we spontaneously decided to do just after Christmas.
We have our peak summer this time of the year but that didn't stop the enthusiast in us.
A 9 hour drive up the north coast of Australia and then west inland to the opal town of Lightning Ridge.
Usually a very red, dry and bare part of Australia, but due to all the monsoonal rain this year, life had bloomed in the outback. Nature was loving the soaking and rewarded her surroundings with green grass, trees full of foliage and an abundance of wildlife drinking and enjoying their extra food supply.
The main town of Lightning Ridge is compact and simple.. A few streets made up of motels, cafes-restaurants, opal shops, one art gallery and the most important of all- one ice-cream shop.
This was evening one after a very long drive and ready to explore what this quintessential town which opal had put on he map..
