GREAT Barrier Reef

Firstly i wanted to apologise for my absence from my blog posts.

Those of you who follow me on instagram ( glittering snowflake), will have been following my journey exploring the world still happily and sharing my experiences there. Time rushes by so quickly and as alot of you have messaged me saying you are missing more detailed posts, here they are again!

Summer in Australia has been a whirlwind of new discoveries since moving back from Switzerland and I have come to realise that there are always new places to see. Even in my own very big backyard here in Oz.

This trip took me up the North of Australia into Queensland to swim with turtles and stingrays in the beautiful Great Barrier Reef.

Although the reef has and is suffering from global warming, there is still so much to be seen in and out of the turquoise waters. A day of snorkelling lead us to this tiny sand cay which is only exposed for a few hours a day until it gets taken back by the blue ocean daily.

As some of you might know, the waters this part of the world are more dangerous as they seem to the eye. Full of stingers, jellyfish, sharks and other things that you don't wish to bump into. Hence full coverage is a must which means wetsuits head to toe. Not the most flattering to wear but it is the only way to swim and encounter the ocean this time of the year safely.

Arriving to this little cay was such a relief as we could take our wetsuits off and enjoy the island for a good half an hour before returning to our boat..
