Being Australian and currently living in Switzerland, I have gotten to know that summer moves on way to quickly here. So cold, grey and long are the winters that I have learnt to chase the sun as much into the European fall as I can. So this year having a birthday nearing the end of September was the perfect excuse to do just that. A car handy and a road-trip Italian style was just the perfect way to continue the summer.
The boarder to Italy from Zurich- Switzerland is an easy 3 hour drive. First stop is the always magical Lake Como. One of my favourite towns here is Bellagio. But to fully appreciate her beauty, I stayed in a town which was directly facing Bellagio across the lake with a view to feed the soul. Hotels, B and B`s are all perched across the lakeside over-looking quintessential old towns. Tiny villages are like a jewel hidden in the lush greenery at every corner. A new discovery can be made over and over everytime you step out of your hotel. Rustic restaurants, Villas, gardens manicured to perfection, gleaming water and a feeling that you have certainly stepped back in time. For me this is the ideal first stop into my Italian roadtrip.
Bringing out my Italian girl ultra-ego is as simple as putting on a blue and white dress and strolling down the paved streets next to the glittering lake which has captured many hearts...
