PALACE in the clouds

Sintta is the jewel of Portugal boasting castles and palaces back to back.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this multi-coloured Palace (The Palace of Pena) while looking up from the city centre of Sintra.

This is no Disneyland but a REAL Palace and its incredible to see in person.

But a waring- There is no easy way to get up to the palace. You drive up to a certain point after which you must walk and its UP, UP and UP all the way. This was the most challenging walk I have ever done. I wanted to give up so many times as you just don't get a break. Once you arrive to the foot of the Palace, you then have to continue walking up, through the Palace drawer Bridge and of course to see the Palace inside, there are ohhhhhhh so many more steps.. and you guessed it ..UP!

This Palace is something so unique and special. It is so high up that you are lucky to capture your photo in any sunlight as it hangs into clouds and fog constantly. Take a picture and it`s fine, another a few seconds later and you disappear like a ghost within these ancient walls into cold fog. But that to me added to the mystery and ambiance of this place.
