Exploring the enormous souk of Marrakesh is no small thing. Be prepared to get a full days worth of exercise while shopping and haggling in the stalls sprawled all over the old town of Marrakesh. I didn't even realise I had a full days work-out until I returned to my hotel and my daily walking app informed me of nearly 10km that day! PHEW! It just reiterates how much effort shopping is! :)
Honestly I enjoyed the entire day being transported back in time to a place that has been selling goods for hundreds of years! It is the original shopping mall! It does come with some frustrations too. Constantly being harassed to go into different shops and sellers trying to outdo each other by getting your attention is tiring. But it is all part of the souk experience. Speaking to many sellers, they love the chase! If you don't haggle, they simply loose respect for you so the most insulting amount of money you offer for their goods begins the game.
From dancing snakes, monkeys, acrobats, spices, carpets, jewerly, bags- you name it they have it. And you will be surprised at what else you find within the souks. Beautiful tiled ancient archways, riads inviting you in to tranquility, mini palaces and magical colours at most corners. One word of advice, don't get stressed if you get lost in there. It is also part of the experience. Everything eventually leads to the enormous Medina, which is the outside market area.
From here all ways back to your Riad - hotel is findable.
